Mature Beauty Makeup Tips

November 22nd, 2008

We often do not realize as we age gracefully that our makeup needs changes over time.  The sole purpose of makeup is to enhance your beauty.  For those of you who are over 40, it all begins with a good skin care regimen.  By using the following products regularly,

  • Skin cleansers
  • Rich moisturizers
  • Natural exfoliants
  • Body scrubs
  • Skin Toners

you are making your skin more smoother and more vibrant which will allow you to apply makeup that will make you look even more beautiful.  If you have any questions or concerns about these types of products, please contact me.  I would love to help you navigate through the cosmetic world to find the best products that meets your personal needs.

Here is my tried and true makeup technique for mature beauties.

  • Start your makeup design by applying a water-based moisturizing cream over your entire face, lips and neck.
  • Use eye cream which is formulated for thinner skin around your eyes.
  • Lightly apply a liquid foundation that closely matches your skin tone to your face and neck areas.
  • I recommend apply corrector tints at this point before you apply makeup to correct and enhance facial features.
  • Apply loose mineral powder that is a shade lighter than your skin tone by pressing and rolling in the powder (do not rub) to help soften your lines.
  • Apply soft and matte shades of blush makeup to your cheeks, around your eyes, high around the temples and lightly under the chin (on your neck).
  • Use a light, neutral eye shadow to gracefully enhance the upper regions of your eyes.
  • With a volumizing mascara, apply two coats to the upper lashes only.
  • Use a lip liner pencil that closely matches your lipstick to define your lips to prevent lipstick from bleeding.
  • Choose a rich color lipstick that goes with your skin tone to liven up your face without overpowering it.
  • Lighten your eyebrow one or two shades lighter with a soft brown, taupe, or gray pencil.

That’s it.  It generally takes about 20 minutes to go through the entire process.  However if you are in a rush, focus on your lips and brow areas.  If you would like to consult with me about your makeup application or help choose the best makeup that matches your skin, I would be more than happy to discuss your needs.  You can contact me anytime.

I also provide personalized shopping services to save you the time and energy to focus on other things with a peace of mind knowing I will purchase the best quality products tailored to your needs.  If you are curious as to which makeup brands I recommend, check out My Bridal Makeup Artist Makeup Brands.

Tips for Your Wedding Day Look

November 21st, 2008

Since it is your dream wedding, you want to be aware of a few things so that you can enjoy the look you desire.

Facial Skin Care

As a skin care expert, I recommend that you do not get a facial less than one week before your wedding day.  The reason for this is some people may experience blemishes after a facial since toxins and impurities are brought to the surface of the skin.  It will also allow for some extra time for any extraction to heal.

I do recommend using a physical scrub a few days prior to your wedding day to remove any dry flaky area on your face.  I also like to recommend a purifying mask for oily skin and hydrating mask for dry or sensitive skin a few days beforehand.

If you are going to wax your upper lips, the sides of your face, or legs and bikini area, consider doing them at least a week before your wedding date.  This will be dependent on your usual waxing schedule but should not be done no less than three days before the day of your wedding.  This will allow for any irritation to subside.

During the Bridal Makeup Design, I will be shaping your eyebrows.  I encourage you to maintain them up to your wedding.  Ideally, you should tweeze them one or two days prior to the wedding date.

Hair Coloring/Styling

I encourage you to consider doing your haircut/coloring at least three weeks before your wedding date.  This will give your hair some time to look natural which is an important feature that compliments your bridal makeup.

Tanning

If you prefer to have a tanned look, I recommend that you do not visit a tanning salon less than four days prior to your wedding date.  This will allow time for any redness to subside.  If you do take the time to tan, I recommend that you use sunscreen while you tan.

If you opt for a sunless tanning product, I would be glad to recommend one that matches your skin complexion.  I highly recommend you try this several weeks before your wedding date if you have never used this product before.  It is not for everyone but we want to make sure you like the way your skin looks on your wedding day.  If you are not sure, please contact me.

If you have any other concerns or questions, please contact me.

Makeup Brands Used

I enjoy working with these makeup brands because each brand has something special to offer.

Depending on your skin tone, a combination of brands may be needed to enhance specific features of your face.
